International Women's Day 2010

International Women's Day / Launch of ConservatoryAmman Valley Women’s Aid celebrated the official launch of their conservatory on 8th March 2010, funded by the Redrow Foundation, in conjunction with International Women’s Day.  This is a major day of global celebration for the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future.

International Women's Day / Conservatory Launch

The conservatory was opened by Joyce Watson (AM), Irena Hopkins (the Mayor of Ammanford) and Sam Jones (County domestic abuse coordinator for Carmarthenshire).  Sam Jones explained that without the Redrow Foundation, the conservatory would not have been built.  Amman Valley Women’s Aid have been supporting women and children who suffer and witness domestic abuse, since 1992.  The new conservatory will be a safe place for children to play if mum is being supported.

Domestic abuse is still a hidden crime, and raising awareness with events like this will ensure the general public are aware of services available to them.  The event was attended by staff at Amman Valley Women’s Aid, local police, communities first, turning point as well as local women.
